Trey Holly, a running back for LSU, and two other people have been taken into custody in relation to a gunshot at an apartment building in Union Parish that resulted in two injuries. Union Parish Sheriff Dusty Gates told The Advocate that Holly was charged on Thursday with one crime of attempted second-degree murder, one count of severe criminal damage to property, and one act of unauthorized use of a weapon.
According to Gates, Holly surrendered himself up on Thursday and was checked into the Union Parish Detention Center. According to Gates, the investigation is still underway and there may have been additional shooters engaged. Although the identity of the other suspect is unknown, Gates stated he expected “additional arrests.” Holly had been “suspended indefinitely” from the team, according to a statement released by LSU following the arrest.
“We are aware that a student-athlete has been arrested in relation to a shooting in Union Parish,” stated LSU. In compliance with departmental standards, this student-athlete has been suspended from all team activities for an undetermined period of time. We won’t be commenting further out of respect for the legal system. The Farmerville Police Department reports that the incident happened at the Union Villa Apartments in Farmerville on Friday, February 9 at 10:30 p.m. A man was shot once in his lower leg, while a woman was shot three times, leaving her in severe condition.
After conducting an investigation, the Union Parish Sheriff’s Office found that three gunmen had discharged numerous bullets at the time. The UPSO discovered that prior fights at an apartment building were the cause of the shooting. As the investigation went on this week, “several” unidentified persons of interest were identified. Holly was part of a crowded position group previous season, rushing 11 times for 110 yards and one touchdown. After rushing for 91 yards in his debut against Army on October 21, mostly on a 67-yard touchdown, he was named the Southeastern Conference Freshman of the Week.
